Baxter House was originally a 3 room log cabin, built in the 1840's and owned by Judge Hughes of Mercer County. The log cabin and 292 acres were sold to James D. Baxter in 1913. The new owner built around the cabin and created the American foursquare structure that was popular in early twentieth century architecture.

This charming home features original light fixtures and eight unique fireplaces with hand glazed brick tiles. The cabin's hand hewn logs, now encompassed by the present structure, are still visible from the basement.
